The late Jim Walker was one of the most famous pioneers in model aviation history. He was a Portland native and his company American Junior Aircraft introduced the joy of flight to millions of children all across America, and eventually the world. American Junior airplanes were "'Ready To Fly". The slogan, "Out of the box and into the Air" proved very popular with the young fans . They didn't have to build it, just quickly assemble it and FLY it. It was wonderful, easy and fun, and thus, the legend was born.

During the 1920s when Jim Walker started all of this, Portland became known in the media as the "Model Airplane Capitol of the World". American Junior was so successful in its "Ready To Fly" concept, that it gave birth to a whole new industry in model aviation history. In January of 1940 Jim Walker was one of the Charter members in the Founding of the HIAA , (Hobby Industry Association of America).

Until his death in 1958, Jim never ceased demonstrating and selling the hobby industry. This video contains some rare Him footage of Jim Walker and the hobby industry he started in the early twenties.
